How does PaceNotes work for Driving Instructors?
The PaceNotes Navigator Dashboard provides a convenient overview of all your students, lessons completed, time recorded, goals reached and so on.
Meanwhile your students use the smartphone app to record each lesson or driving time, and rate how they felt it went.
This provides an easy way for students to understand where they are confident, and where they might need more practice. You can use this information to help plan your lessons.
Driving instructors are welcome to try the smartphone app, but you’ll need to register separately within the app. Your Dashboard login won’t work in the app, and vice versa.
Register for the Navigator Dashboard at: https://navigator.pacenotesapp.com/Register -
How do I invite my students to use PaceNotes?
You will need to send them your PaceNotes ID code, which they can enter in to the app when registering. This then identifies them as your student, and you’ll be able to see their progress in the Navigator Dashboard.
There are a couple of simple ways to do this:
Log in to your Navigator Dashboard and click the ‘Invite Student’ link at the top-right of the page. The student will then receive an email containing your PaceNotes ID code. By entering this code when they register the app, they will be connected to you, and you’ll see their progress in your Navigator Dashboard.
Or, if you know your PaceNotes ID, you can simply send it to your students however you like (e.g. by text, or in person).

Where is my PaceNotes ID?
You can find your PaceNotes ID code by logging into your Navigator Dashboard. The code will be at the top-right of the page – it begins with your initials (e.g. AB00123).

Where can I find the smartphone app?
The PaceNotes app for learner drivers can be found on the Apple App Store (for iPhones) and the Google Play Store (for Android phones).
-
Why can’t I log in to the app?
If you’ve signed up for the online Navigator Dashboard, you’re not automatically signed up for the app. You’ll need to download the app separately and register within the app.
Remember that the smartphone app is aimed at learner drivers. Instructors may download it too to see how it works, but the main tool for instructors is the online Navigator Dashboard.
If you have signed up for the app and you’re still having trouble logging in, try resetting your password or contact support@pacenotesapp.com.
Learner Driver FAQs

How does PaceNotes work for Learner Drivers?
The PaceNotes mobile app enables learner drivers to easily record, track and review your driving. The app can be found on the Apple App Store (for iPhones) and the Google Play Store (for Android phones).
The app can be used on its own or in partnership with a driving instructor. Driving instructors can use the online Navigator Dashboard to track the progress of their students. -
How does PaceNotes record my journeys?
PaceNotes uses telematics technology which monitors driving behaviour. Once the app is downloaded and you choose to start recording a journey, it will record your activity to your app and thus, the Driving Instructor Portal. Shared only with an instructor you choose to connect with, every time you have a practice session or driving lesson, PaceNotes will record information about your journey. As a learner driver, you will be able to review your journeys, the types of roads you’ve driven on, the climate you’ve driven in and evaluate how you felt your lesson went, providing more informed detail on how you’re progressing to licensed independence, every time you get behind the wheel.
-
How much data does the app use when running?
While the data use may vary dependent on the type of smartphone you are using, the app uses between 10kb and 20kb of data per hour, and shouldn’t equate to more than 2.5mb per month.
-
What mobile phones are compatible with the app?
iPhones running on iOS 8.2 or higher and Android devices running on 5.1 or higher are both compatible with the PaceNotes app.
-
Does the app continue to record in areas of low signal?
When driving through an area of low signal the data recorded will remain on the phone. Then the next time the phone has signal, or is connected to the internet, the journey will update on the app.
-
The app asks for permission to access my location – Why?
During a lesson, we use the phone location to record your position.
We use this data to provide feedback on road types, weather and the time of day your lesson takes place. Don’t worry, none of this will be recorded unless you select the start button on your phone to record a lesson or practice session. -
